Schedule w/Game Summaries

(12/10) vs "My Brothers Place" - A pretty good first game I would say, as we win 13-3. Six players scored including Scott with 5. Andy, Willy, and Kevin all scored 2, Jason Schmidt got one, and Jason Faarup scored on a penalty shot to close out the game. We played well defensively, only allowing 15 shots or so. I see us finishing in the top 4 for sure, though it will likely be the third or fourth spot.

other games:

       Mustangs d. Vipers
       Auks d. Hawks
Kryptonics d. A Cow Named Paul
(12/17) vs Mustangs - We have never done anything but lose to this team, so a 4-4 tie was relatively satisfying. We had a really slow start and fell behind 2-0, until Willy scored on a scramble in front and then won a faceoff to Scott in the slot, who one timed in our second. We took the lead on a nice PP goal by Kevin, but the Mustangs countered with a PP goal of their own. The Mustangs got an early third period goal, but Scott broke though a pair of defensemen to knot it at 4. I had strong finish to hold us in there, especially when they had the 4-3 lead and we had to catch up.

other games:

Auks d. A Cow Named Paul
       Vipers d. My Brothers Place
       Hawks tied Kryptonics
(1/7) vs Hawks - That was a bit of a lousy return after a 2 week layoff, losing 4-2 to a team we should beat. Scotty Smith is on the "under the weather" reserve, and our only 2 goals came by way of Willy and Schmidt(I think). I let one in on the first shot that I should have had, but played a strong game after that, as we surrendered a lot of point blank opportunities. We may have actually outshot them, but they had by far the better chances.

other games:

          Kryptonics d. Auks
          Mustangs d. My Brother's Place
A Cow named Paul d. Vipers
(1/14) vs A Cow Named Paul - Another disappointing loss, as started to mount a comeback, but started too late. We didn't really get with it until the last 5 minutes of the second period, but we were already down 3-1; Andy had tipped in a nice goal on a Jason Faarup slapshot. It then became 4-1 after a semi-breakaway was chipped inside the post on me, and the third period goals by Scott and Barry Mills, who was filling in for Kevin, weren't quite enough to catch up. I was pretty disgusted with my play, which was just average , and wasn't good enough to win against Paul, who is the best goalie in the league if I'm not. These past two losses have put us in a tight spot, with another very tough game on tap next week.

other games:

          Hawks d. My Brother's Place
          Kryptonics d. Vipers
          Mustangs tie Auks
(1/21) vs Kryptonics - Team's overall play = lousy. My play = awful. Game Summary = an embarrassing 10-2 loss to a skilled team that wasn't even skating that hard.

other games:

          Mustangs d. Hawks
          Auks d. Vipers
A Cow Named Paul d. My Brother's Place
(1/28) vs Vipers - This was a great game, as Kevin made his much needed return. We fell behind 2-0 early on two really lucky goals, and it could have been worse by the end of the first had I not stood on my head. Usually, I tend to struggle after giving up 2 goals like that, but I was still feeling good about my play, and I made a spectacular save of the pad stacking variety in the dying seconds of the first, and I think it really uplifted the team. Willy finally got us on the board at the beginning of the second, and Scott tied it up on a nice screen shot. We then took a 3-2 lead after Willy scored on a breakaway, but the Vipers quickly countered with a nice passing play to tie it. A few minutes later, Brian Beisner ripped a shot to the far side to regain the lead. We had the one goal lead for a while, until Scott jumped on a defensive blunder, in which the goalie's pass hit the defenseman, who then overskated it. Scott reached to get to the puck on his backhand, and, with his hands still on the end of his stick, was able to spin around and score what has to be the shittiest goal of his career. It was, however, a backbreaker for the Vipers; as well as I was playing, everyone could see that the 2 goal lead would stand up. The now frustrated Vipers then took a double minor unsportsmanlike penalty, and Jason Schmidt capped off the 6-3 victory.

This was a hard fought win against a good team(they're a lot better than their record indicates), and having Kevin backmade a big difference. He didn't make any spectacular plays like he is capable of, but he made a lot of good plays in our end and did all of the "little things" right to get us out of trouble. We didn't generate much offense in the first period(obviously- no goals), as soon as the Vipers had any sort of breakdown, we were quick to capitalize, and that, along with my stellar play, made the difference.

other games:

          Auks d. My Brother's Place
          Mustangs d. Kryptonics
A Cow Named Paul d. Hawks
(2/4) vs Auks - Boy, we had this one up 'til the third period. We went down 1-0 when I lost sight of the puck behind/underneath me and a guy finally poked it in(after the whistle should have gone, I might add). Scott tied it up for us on a hard fought breakaway goal, and then gave Willy some room to score the go ahead goal a few minutes later. The Auks tied it near the midway point of the second, but Jason Schmidt tipped in a great goal on a Kevin Nieweglowski shot. I was very strong at the end of the second, and we took a 3-2 lead into the third, even though we were probably being outshot by a good margin. I remember saying before the start of the third, "Let's go boys, keep haulin' ass this period." We didn't we got outplayed the entire period, and, after the Auks had tied it on a goal that was seemingly kicked in, we finally took a penalty at about the 10:00 mark. The Auks set up their main guy on a great play to the side of the net, and he rifled upstairs as I made the slide across. They ended up scoring 2 more in the final minutes, as we went all out pressing up, and I kind of lost it after that PP goal that killed us. I still can't believe we lost that game, not to mention all but the slightest of playoff chances. All we can do is try to finish out strong and come back hard next session.

other games:

          Hawks d. Vipers
Mustangs d. A Cow Named Paul
          Kryptonics d. My Brother's Place
(2/11) vs My Brothers Place - A win for a change of pace, as we rifle in 10 goals and I stop all 15 or so shots that came my way. Scott opened up the scoring with a nice backhand on the doorstep and ended up scoring 5 of our goals. Dave had possibly the prettiest goal of the game as he pinched up a tipped a wrist shot from Andy. Willy played a strong game, scoring 2 goals, and Jason Faarup and Brian each chipped in a goal in the effort.

other games:

A Cow Named Paul d. Kryptonics
          Mustangs d. Vipers
          Auks ? Hawks
(2/18) vs Mustangs - It's Wednesday and I'm just now updating. I remember we started off okay, and then went to hell in a handbasket; ended up losing 8-3. Scott, Barry, and Brian scored our goals, and I made a lot of tough saves as I was peppered with a lot of good shots. The whole game was chippy, as is every game against this team, and ended in a scuffle after I took a stick to the mask. Dave and Scott quickly jumped in and floored the guilty player, and he was already on the ground by the time I could get to him behind the net. At the other end, Brian had to be pulled off of a Mustangs player by both referees.

other games:

          Kryptonics ? Hawks
A Cow named Paul d. Auks
          Vipers d. My Brother's Place
