Usual Suspects Hockey

This, one of my current teams, plays on Thursdays at Oak Hill Sports in Belleville, IL.

The team consists of:

(9/17)
Games:
        Stars d. Wildcats
        Mustangs d. Bandits
        Usual Suspects tie Vipers
        Grizzlies d. Timberwolves

(9/24) vs Grizzlies - Following a wild, dissapointing 10-10 tie last week vs the Vipers, we all had a strong outing tonight in a nail biting 5-4 win. After falling behind 1-0 early, we led 3-2, and 4-3 en route to our victory. The winning goal didn't come until there were about 15 seconds to go. Following a huge save by yours truly, Scott and Barry rushed down on a two on one, with Scott feeding a nice pass to Barry, who flipped it upstairs for his second goal of the game. Scott netted 2 also; Jason Beisner tallied the other goal.

Other games:
           Stars tie Mustangs
           Wildcats d. Bandits
           Vipers d. Timberwolves

(10/1) vs Wildcats - Don't ask. 1-1 after 1st, we blew it in the second, I blew it harder in the third, ended up 10-3. Scott(2) and Andy scored. Enough said.

Other games:
           Mustangs d. Timberwolves
           Vipers d. Grizzlies
           Stars d. Bandits

(10/8) vs Mustangs - Not much good to say this week. No scoring summary to give, as we had quite a few shots, but few good scoring opporitunities and lost 4-0. Aside from the first goal, a softie, I played a superb game, but it didn't really matter after that. We've now dropped to 1-2-1.

Other games:
           Timberwolves tie Bandits
           Wildcats d. Vipers
           Grizzlies d. Stars

(10/15) vs Bandits - We rebounded pretty well this week. We played a little sloppy at times, but Kevin and Scott each had two goals, and Brian and Jason Beisner each scored to give us a 6-2 win. We did a good job defensively, so I didn't face too many shots(should have shut them out) and I was solid, as both goals against were off the post and in. As a highlight, Scott even scuffled(pretty successfully, I might add) with a guy that outweighed him by at least 50 pounds. Way to go Scott!

Other games:
           Stars d. Timberwolves
           Wildcats d. Grizzlies
           Mustangs d. Vipers

(10/22) vs Timberwolves - Well, we fared pretty well to say the least. Andy led the way with 5 goals, and Jason Faarup had 5(at least, probably more) assists. Scott, Jason Beisner, Kevin, and Jason Schmidt all contributed 2 goals. I just played OK, nothing great.

Other games:
                Grizzlies d. Bandits
                Vipers d. Stars
                Mustangs d. Wildcats

(10/29) vs Stars - I was very happy with the rest of the team, not so happy with myself. We were down 3-1 after the first, and I should stop the first and third goals. We mounted a little comeback in the third, and made it 6-5, but ended up falling 9-6. I was pretty disgusted giving up 3 goals after we'd come back like that. I didn't play a bad game, but I once again wasn't at my best, which I need to be if we are going to be successful. Jason Schmidt had a great game, scoring 3 goals. Scott, Barry, and Brian Beisner also scored. Even though they've lost 2, this is the best team in the league, so we shouldn't be too disappointed in this loss. Of course, I'm disappointed after any loss, especially if I don't play my absolute best game, which I expect myself to do every game. Patrick says, "the great goalies hate to lose more than they love to win." If that's the case, I'm one of the greatest of all time.

other games:
           Wildcats d. Timberwolves
           Mustangs d. Grizzlies
           Vipers d. Bandits

(11/5) vs Vipers - A much needed win, as we outscore the Vipers 7-5. I was very happy with the way the team was backchecking, slowing down a very fast team before they could get a head of steam going. This led to a couple of our goals, like Brian Beisner's breakaway goal(one of his two). Scott and Jason Beisner also scored two, and Kevin added the other. I played better than the last few Thursdays, although I still wasn't as sharp as I have been the last few Sundays. If we win one of our next two, we should be set to make the playoffs, albeit in the fourth spot.

other games:
           Stars d. Wildcats
           Mustangs d. Bandits
           Grizzlies ? Timberwolves

(11/12) vs Grizzlies - Tonight's game, well, didn't take place; the other team didn't show. A few of our buddies from the Timberwolves stuck around to have a scrimmage game, as well as Bob Powers and Jack Weir from the Stars, who played after us. It was kind of nice to be able to just relax and play with no pressure to win. It was also a good opportunity for everyone to get to know Matt Haggarty, who will likely be replacing Barry for the rest of the season, as he had an operation of some sorts. On to next week...

other games:
           Vipers d. Timberwolves
           Stars d. Mustangs
           Wildcats d. Bandits

(11/19) vs Wildcats - This didn't end up very nicely as we lost 7-4. We played them pretty even, especially in the middle 9/10 of the rink. We got hemmed in our own end a couple times in the second that cost us a couple goals, a few ridiculous bounces(as usual), not to mention a really lame delayed penalty on myself that cost us one in the last two minutes. Matt played well in his debut, scoring a goal and assisting on both of Scott's. Jason Beisner put in the other as he overpowered the goalie with a 25 foot slapper. The playoffs begin in two weeks...

other games:

           Vipers d. Grizzlies
